Biography

Say No More Tongues began as a solo-project of Andrew Eidson from Nashville, Tennessee in the year 2004. At the time his previous project R3v0's final album sounded far different than what Say No More Tongues' first release sounded like. While R3v0 was still electronic, it began to incorporate far more experimental tones that what SNMT had started out with. SNMT began with darkly ambient tones inspired from various goth-rock groups like The March Violets, The Sex Gang Children, and Tones on Tail. The album "Ma Maladie" captured a very dark, but not bleak view of things. Most of them used the same instruments set to the same settings on fruityloops. It had quite a bit of grain put on the drums. All of these tracks are comparatively longer than most releases after that. Though not as stellar, "Salvation" was a short 6 song album with only 5 actual tracks with substance. This album was themed along with the end of the world. Parts are very fastpaced and some are slow. "Salvation" also featured a song that only used drums, a first move away from the typical whaling synths and grainy drums that SNMT was known to have. During winter of 2004/2005 Andrew started on "The Death of Reason". This release was even smaller than the previous release. Eventuallly, in very early summer of 2005 after High School graduation Andrew put the final touches on "The Death of Reason" and finalized its tracklist. All of the summer was spent in Orlando, Florida with his father until college started. "The Death of Reason" was very bleak, but still maintained the dark atmosphere SNMT started out with.

During fall and winter 2005 only two songs were created. 'Rituals of Forbidden Blood' and 'Broadcast Pink Seeds'. These last two songs were a transitionary stage from the old SNMT into the new. The songs still used the same presets that were carried over from "Ma Maladie" only used in different ways. During this drought of songs, SNMT's sound changed from somewhat dark...to a twisted version of dark. During this time period Andrew discovered a genre of music called noise and also learned about John Cage in early 2006. Though these two songs were made before those two discoveries were made though. Over Christmas 2005 (going into 2006), Rituals of Forbidden Blood was recorded. Shortly thereafter, Andrew's computer broke and he switched to only using Linux so he didn't actively make as many songs as he used to. In fact, it wasn't until May 2006 when anything else was recorded.

"The Aesthetics of Failure" became the next album released in June. It was based on an essay of the same name. The essay explained about how certain musicians would implement the failings of technology to make music. Most songs were made using Fruityloops, but about half were field recordings or simpler things. There is also a track that uses only a metronome being played and another with a pair of scissors scraping against a spinning CD. His girlfriend played viola and keyboard on a few tracks, but not on others. During this time, Andrew purchased an amplifier, a mixer, a signal processor, and some other audio equipment. Eventually, Christa officially joined the band as violist and keyboardist. While this is primarily Andrew's project, there are a few tracks wholly created by her.

The next album stayed about the same as Aesthetics. A few tracks of fruity loops and a handful of other tracks. The album "A Wide-Eyed Fawn" was tried to do a little bit of everything ranging from recording vibrators to recording a walk around Opryland Hotel, and a track with interpolated screaming. This album also had a variety of different styles, though they were all mostly experimental or noise-related. Now SNMT was very far away from the danceable tunes of "Ma Maladie".

From around October until December, SNMT recorded some other stuff like the "Etude For Fingersmith" single which is only a hand-drawn song made using Sound Forge and "A Cold Horizon" which is just a viola battle between he and Christa and two songs recorded on a campus digital piano with a broken sustain pedal. These two singles/mini-albums contrast in a very huge way. One is static and crazy stuff... and one is somewhat drone. "A Cold Horizon" also tells a sort of story in which a man travels through his mind seeking answers to questions only bored people ask.  Say No More Tongues also recorded a Christmas album called "Sounds of Christmas" for xmas 2006 where the same instrumentation SNMT uses live was also on that record. This album is only available on Say No More Tongue's indiefi page or at live concerts.

Currently, SNMT is working on a collaboration project with Kenji Siratori and working on a new album using the same instrumentation that is used live (and other things, of course).
