This week’s Pause or Continue tackles the hard questions. Speaking of tackling, listen to Jarrod talk about Madden 09. He’ll tell ya whether it’s something worth picking up or not. We put the games-as-art debate to rest, and we also tackle our WRONGNESS on Shenmue III and Siren Blood Curse. (Amongst other things we are wrong about). In other news: Spore, Valkyria Chronicles, Batman, Harry Potter, and a dream team between Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami. Get hyped!

I get to talk about my game of the week, No More Heroes. And later on, we do our Classic Pause or Continue segment in which we discuss orgies, Far Cry 2, Diablo III, and how Ninja Gaiden II is now broken.

For all that and more, be sure to check out this week’s spirit-filled episode (read: booze-filled) episode of Pause or Continue!

Pause or Continue - 14 - It’s Criminal

August 5th, 2008

Posted By: Tears of Ash No Comments

So on the table for this week’s show, we actually changed the segment Buy or Sell to “Odds Makers”. On that particular segment, we go back and forth a little bit about Square Enix, Final Fantasy 13, possibilty of a new Jet Set Radio, the Ghostbusters debacle, and we also conquer the fate of Too Human’s grissly future.

This week we also finally get to introduce our Gloat segment. On the Odds Makers segment (Previously Buy or Sell), if you’re going for broke…and you’re wrong this is the part where we call you out on it. Jarrod was wrong about the Soul Calibur IV exclusive characters, and now we make him pay. Dearly. (Or at least we try!)

Our Pause or Continue segment covers all of this week’s basics. This week we cover Siren Blood Curse, Wii Motion Plus, Valve, R4, and much more. Also, Lord British is going to take your DNA into space!

This week we tackle the harsh reality of awesome games like Ghostbusters and Brutal Legend being let go by their publisher in an attempt to “streamline” the company. Along with more “WTF” moments with discussion about Mark Wahlberg playing the new Max Payne. Red Steel 2, Star Trek Online? Along with Soul Caliber IV discussion and other interesting tidbits from the week, I present to you episode 13 of Pause or Continue podcast. You can hear all this and more from the following links:

Pause or Continue - 12 - A Speedy Sword!?

July 22nd, 2008

This week we discuss a little bit of The Dark Knight in a roundtable discussion, since we all saw that film. We also cover many subjects in our Buy or Sell and Pause or Continue segments as always.

Download | RSS | Itunes | Email

Audio Atrocities Link - as discussed on the show

Buy or Sell?

1. Buy or Sell E3 returning in its current format for next year?
2. Buy or Sell there being more “significant announcements at the TGS than E3″
3. Buy or Sell Pikmin 3 being shown off before the end of the year?
4. Buy or Sell: Soul Calibur IV selling more than 300,000 in its first month in the US
5. Buy or Sell: EA acquiring Take Two before the end of the year

Pause or continue Questions

1. E3 is over, was this the most disappointing E3 in recent years?

2. Dead Rising: Chop Til you Drop was oficially announced for Wii, a good idea or merely a catchy title on a popular system?

3. NPD numbers for June came in, and the Wii overtook the Xbox 360 in the US (in May it became the leader in North America, counting Canada and Mexico), does Microsoft have any chance of catching back up with their recent price drop and Fall lineup?

4. Speaking of NPD numbers, Sony had the biggest non-holiday month in the Playstation 3s history, is this Metal Gear Inspired Mayhem, or a sign of a change of pace for the platform?

5. Sonic and the Black Knight: For wii is being unveiled, it involves Sonic brandishing a sword. Is there any hope left for Sega’s once proud mascot?

6. Ubisoft was found issuing a PC hacker groups disc check circumventor to repair a bug in a recent upgrade of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, is this a big deal?

7. GTA IV has been announced unofficially for PC in recent comments made by Take Two, is this a big deal?

8. Xseed games has decided to pick up the american publishing rights to the game based off of the popular Japanese reality show/comedy Game Center CX, and naming it Retro Game Challenge. What do you think it’s chances of lighting up the sales charts are?

9. For you, what was the game of the show of E3 2008?

This week we’re trying something a little different. Not only is our show a little bit shorter, and more streamlined we’ve also added a completely new segment called “Buy or Sell”. In this segment, we toss around a handful of questions and we give out a percentage based on how likely we think it is. So like, do you buy this concept? How sure are you? Are you really sure? Ok! We’ve also cut down the talking on the classic pause or continue segment into 30 seconds for each person. We don’t stop there, each persons’ face time is also cut down to 30 seconds when it’s all said and done. We aim for about an hour’s worth of content, perfect for the bus ride home!

We also encourage people to send in questions for both the Buy or Sell segments, or the Pause or Continue segment. Feel free to send those along with other comments to Pauseorcontinue@gmail.com

This week we discussed E3. Of course!

Here’s this weeks POC questions: Microsoft’s Avatar system and new Dashboard were shown off with somewhat mixed responses from the online community, is this a step forward for Microsoft or a step towards alienating their core
fan base?

Final Fantasy XIII was announced for Xbox 360, is this a big deal for Microsoft, or a bigger loss of an exclusive for Sony?

Microsoft’s much anticipated “LIPS” has finally been unveiled, is this the next Guitar Hero, or will this mark the first major failure in the music trend?

Speaking of Music games, Nintendo finally showed off Wii Music after having locked it in a Hyrulian Treasure Chest for the past two years, is this a step forward in music titles or merely
a simple music flailing game?

Wii Sports Resort was announced and will be packaged with “Wii Motion Plus”, will this be the biggest title of the year or is it going to be held back by supply limits on the new peripheral
and a lack of interest in the franchise?

Speaking of packaged Peripherals, Animal Crossing for Wii will include WiiSpeak, is this a good idea or a peripheral that will be used less than the power pad or ROB the Robot?

Sony announced a brand new SKU for the Playstation 3 doubling the hard drive size for the low cost model, is this a good way to counter Microsoft’s hard drive increase and
recent price drop or is it a bit too little?

Sony also announced MAG, a 256 person action extravaganza. Will this be a crucial system seller for Sony, or a bandwidth consuming lag ridden disaster?

Finally, what was the biggest surprise of E3’s press conferences?

Jarrod is back and better than ever! Also this week we discuss the pre-E3 buzz, and Dan shares many memories about E3s in the glorious past. A very exciting episode of Pause or Continue with rumors, hopes, and dreams. All of which will probably crushed within the next week or so! So come listen to us wide-eyed with anticipation for gaming’s biggest event: E3.

If you’d like to submit any questions for the gameshow segment of POC, or have general hubbub please contact us at: Pauseorcontinue@gmail.com

1. We’ve seen E3 evolve quite a bit over the last few years, but is it as important now as it was back in the heyday?
2. E3 is back in LA this year. Will this help bring back the magic?
3. Let’s move right into the press events. First up is Microsoft. What do you expect from their presser?
4. Next up is Nintendo. What is the Big N bringing?
5. The last major presser is Sony. What cards are they laying on the table?
6. We’ve got 6 other press events from other major companies, which we will split into 2 questions. First up is EA, Ubisoft, and Konami. Any thoughts?
7. The final three press events are for Take Two, Capcom, and Activision (Even though they’re not technically part of E3), looking forward to what they have to say?
8. What games are you looking forward to they you think might be a no show at E3?
9. What games do you think will be announced, and what games do you pray will be announced?
10. Finally, the most superficial question we could possibly think of: What company will “Win E3”?

Here’s those booth girls that were doing that shirt swapping.

Yet another week with Jarrod missing in Nevadaland, but not to fear! My special friend Chris Tapp fills in for me, while I fill in Jarrod’s spot. So we change it up a little bit this time around, by popular demand! This week’s “theme” is about old ideas being put into new mediums. It seems like this week there was quite a few old titles being brought back out. New Castlevania entry, Mega Man 9, and the future of 2d gaming in general. For more information please refer to the question list, promptly provided at the end of the feature. It’s a pretty interesting show this time around, and we got some pretty solid discussion. And with that, I’m proud to present Pause or Continue episode 09!

If you like our show, and want to give some input, or anything feel free to mail us at Pauseorcontinue@gmail.com

1. Castlevania Judgement for Wii has been announced, and to the disappointment of many, it’s a fighting game, what do you think, promising transition of franchise into a new genre, or unecessary
side story?

2. Mega Man 9 is a downloadable game on WiiWare,, is this a step down for Capcom’s most cherished franchise and mascot, or the start of a new trend?

3. Speaking of which, more and more 2D titles are being released as downloadable only titles, is this the future of 2D?

4. Diablo 3 has finally been announced, is this a long overdue release or has blizzard taken their time to let World of Warcraft fizzle out before bringing back the franchise?

5. Speaking of Diablo 3, with Blizzard announcing no plans to bring it to consoles this begs the question about how much PC Gaming is struggling

6. There’s a new rumor about a Samsung TV as part of a new series with integrated Xbox 360 hardware, is this a good or a bad thing?

7. Retail chain ads have been scanned pointing out an Xbox 360 price drop for the premium model, with sales struggling of late is this overdue ,or just in time to turn things around for Microsoft.

8. With the 360 price drop impending, are Nintendo and Sony likely to match?

This week we have a very special guest on our show. From the legendary gaming podcast “Broadcast Gamer” we have co-hosting with us “MC Wilson.” while Jarrod is away on the wartorn breaches of Lake Tahoe fighting boredom on an exclusive private property his family owns. This week we talk about pompous voice actors who think that the video game industry has the budget of hollywood, some whiny 2D developers that aren’t innovative enough, so they feel like they’re genre is dying. Also, Ghostbusters! A full topic list is included at the bottom of the post, as usual For all that and more listen to our Very Special Episode!

intro music: Coaltar of the Deepers - Wipeout (retake)
outro music:. Mylene Farmer - Desenchantee

1. Square Enix says, “No Star Ocean on Ps3″
2. Star Wars: The Clone Wars — Lightsaber Duels. WTF? Seriously. WTF. Is this every star wars fans’ dream?
3. Ghostbuster’s Ecto-1 car showing up at PAX. Only a big deal for those with prescription nostalgia goggle or what?
4. Voice Actor Michael Ironside gone Splinter Cell series due to ego trip.
5. Castlevania frontman Koji Igarashi sounds less than optimistic about traditional gameplay
6. Sony Studios president says 8 Days was canceled partially because of no online play. Is this a disturbing trend?
7. Sony’s new playstation-edu is going after XNA, is this a good idea?
8. Hidea Kojima thinking about returning to Metal Gear. MGS5 possibly a prequel.
9. Sony lost a lot of money in the past two years due to hardware costs. How long will it take them to recover, it at all.

Pause or Continue - 007 - Insulted!

Downloads | Facebook Chit Chat | RSS | Itunes
This week, we gamers felt insulted as the likes of Nintendo think only geeks need extra storage, along quite a few other things. Some of these things we discuss this week simply make us feel insulted as gamers, NO! as human beings.

Come join us on a magical carpet ride down the 10 Q Avenue, and watch the epic brothers in arms duo Jarrod and Dan slay the dragon of debate in a gameshow podcast we’d like to call “Pause or Continue”.

Yum, dragons. :S

Now, there’s 10 questions, usually. And I post them here. The creators usually make them up, but if you feel like you have something you’d like to hear in a heated battle to the DEATH, then please feel free to contact us at Pauseorcontinue@gmail.com Also, at the end of the show is a very important announcement you don’t want to miss out out on.

1. Microsoft is going to have a Mii and Home like system involving Avatars, an already generic move, is this just another attempt to widen the Xbox audience, how will it do?

2. A number of team ninja staffers are reportedly following Itagaki out the door at Tecmo and will be filing suits of their own, Is Tecmo in trouble?

3. Wii balance Board Spider-Man titles, are you kidding me?

4. Very few 80 gig Metal Gear Solid PS3 bundles were sent to stores with word coming out that Sony does not intend to restock, is this a missed opportunity?

5.Microsoft’s Robbie Bach took a slight shot at the PSP stating that while it may be financially successful the platform has been a “cautionary tale” presumably on how not to design a platform.

6. On the subject of Robbie Bach, he also mentioned that the infamous red ring of death had no affect on sales or customer relations. Is he full of crap, or do people really love their XBox 360’s that much?

7.Boom Blox sold only 60,00 copies. What does this mean for Nintendo Wii and it’s game library?

8. Nintendo is suing Nyko over it’s wireless nunchuk. Is this warranted?

9. An Australian Nintendo rep recently said that a USB hard drive is only for “Geeks and Otakus”. Is this how Nintendo views us?

10. A turok movie is in the works. Is this prove that Jesus hath died in vain?
